Has this project worked?

We think so, we've run the Too Many Puppies project for six years now starting in September 2016. From this beginning until 31 December 2022 125 dogs have been desexed costing $30,300. We advertised the project in 2016 and 2017 on Facebook and a write up in the local newspaper. Since then the project has been running on a case by case basis.

The project is both for the dogs and for us. It's heart breaking to see a dog put to sleep just because there's too many dogs around. Currently in the Auckland Pound around 50 dogs are euthanised each week. In 2022 in the Tasman Pound every dog assessed as rehomeable has found a home. The number of dogs going through the Pound has been manageable and we feel this is in part due to Too Many Puppies.
